Menus

There are a number of commands that can be chosen from the menus:

File|Load options
This command lets you load the current options settings from a file.

File|Save options
This command lets you save the current options settings to a file.

File|Default options
This command sets all options for the current scanner and scan mode to their default values.

Device|Calibrate
This command causes a scanner calibration on those scanners that support calibration.

On the PhotoSmart scanner, this is primarily useful for the print mode. You need to make sure you run this before making any scans of photographs (i.e. 5x7 prints). It creates vuescan.s10 (original PhotoSmart) or vuescan.s20 (PhotoSmart S20), which contains the calibration data for each of the 2700 scanner elements. If your scans have streaks in the scan direction, you probably need to clean the dust out of the scanner and then recalibrate.

Device|Focus
This command focuses the scanner on the center of the device region. This only works if the scanner is capable of being focused (i.e. the Minolta Scan Multi, all Nikon scanners, the Acer ScanWit, and the Polaroid SprintScan 4000). This command is mainly useful if the automatic focus is turned off.

Device|Eject
This command ejects film from the scanner possible. If using an APS adapter, this rewinds the film in the cassette.

If the adapter has been ejected or rewound previously, choosing this command again re-inserts the film.

Device|Abort
This command aborts a long-running operation, such as scanning, cropping, or calibrating.

Preview|Memory
This command works the same as "Preview|Device", except it reads the raw scan data from the memory buffer instead of the scanner.

Preview|Device
This command does a quick preview scan of the scan region, and displays it in the preview window.

If the scanner can detect inserted images and if the memory buffer is valid, the raw data is read from the memory buffer instead of the scanner.

If you want to preview more than one frame at a time, put a list of frames you want to scan in the "Frame numbers" box in the lower left corner of the window. You can also put a letter indicating the additional rotation for a frame next to the frame number (i.e. you can use "1-3,4R,7L" to specify frames 1-3, frame 4 rotated 90 degrees clockwise and frame 7 rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise).

The frame number is combined with the "Disk file name" option by incrementing the digits prior to a "+" in the file name, or by incrementing the last digit found in the file name. For instance, setting the "Frame numbers" to "1,3,5" and setting the "Disk file name" to "scan123xyz.tif" will scan scan123xyx.tif, scan125xyz.tif, and scan127xyz.tif.

Scan|Memory
This command works the same as "Scan|Device", except it reads the raw scan data from the memory buffer instead of the scanner.

Scan|Device
This command does a scan of the scanner using the options in the Options tab. The output of the scan is displayed in the Scan tab, and optionally written to the file types enabled in the Files tab.

If the scanner can detect inserted images and if the memory buffer is valid, the raw data is read from the memory buffer instead of the scanner.
